The Lie? Although it’s only late October, FoxNewsLies.net can’t imagine any Fox News Lie being bigger than this one in 2013. That’s why Sean Hannity’s October 11th ruse he titled “Universal Nightmare,” is easily the FoxNewsLies.net’s 2013 “Lie of the Year!” Hannity was so sure he’d found proof that Obamacare is a “train wreck,” he […]
The Lie? During a segment on the October 5th, 2013 edition of Fox & Friends, one of the show’s co-hosts, Anna Kooiman, decided that President Obama, “has offered to pay out of his own pocket for the museum of Muslim culture out of his own pocket.” Her assertion was part of a discussion (if you […]
The Serial Fox News LIE About Drops in Net Worth Under President Obama
The Lie? On a number of Fox News shows on June 12th, 2012 Karl Rove, Steve Doocy, Sean Hannity and Patti Ann Browne overstated and misstated the findings contained within a Federal Reserve Board Survey by claiming that a 38.8 percent drop in the median net worth of Americans had taken place during “the last […]
Steve Doocy’s LIE About President Obama’s “Silver Spoon” Comment
The Lie? On the April 19th, 2012 edition of Fox and Friends, Steve Doocy deliberately misquoted a statement made by President Obama during a speech he gave on the previous day. While interviewing Gov. Mitt Romney, Doocy claimed the president had said, “Unlike some people, I wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth,” […]
Mike Huckabee’s Fox News LIE(S) of the Year - 2011
The Lie? In early March, Mike Huckabee (R-Fox News), told several Fox News Lies about President Obama. First, he told a radio show host, “One thing that I do know is his (President Obama) having grown up in Kenya, his view of the Brits, for example, very different than the average American,” said the Fox […]
The Lie? On the November 8th, 2011 edition of Fox & Friends, co-host Gretchen Carlson LIED by claiming, “The Obama administration, adding a Christmas tree tax, while the government ‘Grinching’ 15 cents out of your pockets potentially.”
<
The TruthDiscussion about what would lead to an additional Christmas tree, started BEFORE the President Obama took office - in February of 2008. What’s more, the fee levels are not set by the government, but by the Christmas tree industry. And further, this LIE had been first advanced by Matt Drudge, in a Drudge Report item titled, “Obama’s new Christmas Tree Tax.” Such claims support the faulty notion that Barack Obama hates Christmas and Christians. The fees were designed to help the Christmas tree industry better market its products. They were never intended to go into the government’s coffers. (source: mediamatters.org)
The Lie? On the October 6th, 2011 edition of Hannity, host Sean Hannity made the false statement that President Ronald Reagan, “inherited a far worse economy than (President) Obama.”
<
The TruthThis is one of the kinds of Fox News Lies that have become commonplace. Hannity knows that Reagan did NOT inherit a worse economy than Obama, but he allows the lie to slip through his lips as if it is a foregone conclusion. According to a report published at IHS Global Insighton July 29th, 2011, “The fourth quarter of 2008, right after the Lehman failure, now shows an 8.9% annual rate of decline in GDP (previously 6.8%), and now represents the worst single-quarter decline in GDP since the 10.4% drop in the first quarter of 1958, exceeding the 7.9% decline in the second quarter of 1980.”
Also, on the same day, McClatchy Newspapers reported that, “The quarterly percentage change in real gross domestic product was revised down for six of the 12 quarters reviewed. That means the Great Recession, already the worst downturn since the 1930s, was even more damaging than previously recognized.” (source: mediamatters.org)
The Lie? On the August 24th, 2011 edition of Hannity, host Sean Hannity claimed “he would never question President Obama’s Patriotism.” As mediamatters.org points out, Hannity has a long and troubling history of questioning the president’s patriotism.
The Truth 1. On August 7, 2008, Hannity claimed to “never hear” Obama discuss “how great this country is.”
2. On April 17, 2009, Hannity asked, “Is there anything that [Obama] likes about this country?”
3. On April 20, 2009, Hannity wondered if Obama “even likes” America, since he “has so completely condemned his own country.”
4. On May 26, 2009, While discussing the president’s nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court, Hannity claimed Obama “turns his back on Mainstream America” by nominating “the most divisive nominee possible,” - a “radical.”
5. On July 16, 2009, Hannity declared that Obama’s “Soviet-style” health care will “destroy capitalism.”
6. On October 13, 2009, Hannity claimed that Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize “for trashing America,” “for calling America arrogant,” and “for apologizing for America.” (source: mediamatters.org)
The Lie? On the July 13th, 2011 edition of Fox News’ The Five, Eric Bolling pointed out that George W. Bush never “fearmongered,” (a rather silly argument on its face), “I don’t remember any terrorist attacks on American soil between 2000 and 2008,” he added. That statement went challenged as an outright falsehood by at least one member of The Five’s panel. In November of 2009, (one of the Five’s panelists) Dana Perino appeared on Fox News’ Hannity, claimed, “We did not have a terrorist attack on our country during President Bush’s term.” She later admitted she was wrong.
