The Lie? On the June 5th, 2011 edition of Fox News Sunday, host Chris Wallace asked Fox News contributor Sarah Palin about her twisted explanation of the events regarding Paul Revere’s famous ride. According to Palin, Revere warned the British that the British were coming. In Palin’s history books, we suppose, Revere was a strong supporter of the Second Amendment, more than a decade BEFORE there was a Second Amendment. (“He who warned the British that they weren’t gonna be takin’ away our arms”). It’s been well-documented that Revere never fired “warning shots,” or rung any of the “bells” Palin claims he did. His was a covert ride that was initiated by lanterns at the Old North Church. Palin still told Wallace, “You know what? I didn’t mess up about Paul Revere. Part of his ride was to warn the British that were already there.” She also blamed her statement (which she still supports) was the result of a “gotcha question.” |

The Truth Warning the British that the British were coming would have defeated the idea of that midnight ride. Despite that fact that some of Palin’s hard-wired supporters have tried (in vain) to change the Wikipedia account of Paul Revere’s ride(s), there is no proof he either fired a weapon or rang any bells. As for the supposed “gotcha question” that led to Palins exotic take on history, here it is: “What have you seen so far today, and what are you going to take away from your visit?” Once again, Palin’s straight-faced inability to admit she got it all wrong, is a head-scratcher of a LIE that rivals her signature lie, those non-existent “death panels.” (source: mediamatters.org) |

I’m not a huge Palin supporter, but Wiki does explain, with quotes, about PR’s capture by the British and the warning he gave them. You guys should take this down because at this point you are the liars, we all make mistakes. This is a lot like when Palin was at a Tea Party rally and said “party like it’s 1773” and rather than put two and two together they assumed she meant 1776, and not 1773, the year of the actual tea party.
Hey “notaPalinfan”, trust me, she had no idea that Paul Revere had been captured when she made her statement. I mean, she had to take a history learning bus tour just to understand the little that she does know. The proof is the context. She said “he was riding through town firing shots and ringing bells telling the British…etc” not telling the British from his place in custody after his capture. Why are you defending her stupidity?
To assume that your premise is correct, is to say that Paul Revere was sent out to get captured by the British so that he could warn them that they were coming. That’s what Palin implied with her attempt to clarify her initial statements. Also, even if there was a bead of truth to that statement - she still didn’t explain the ones about the British wanting to take their weapons and the silliness about them firing warning shots and ringing bells.
Sarah Palin’s Paul Revere statement was not a lie and doesn’t belong in this category of Fox Lies. Palin did nothing more than show herself to be intellectually challenged and uneducated. Like the man said you can’t fix stupid.
Jeff, This site isn’t saying that Palin lied about Paul Revere. Yes, she got it wrong, which is totally stupid and shows that she would lose miserably on the show “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader” and that she is not nearly informed enought to even consider being president of the United States (or president of anything, for that matter, other than her own fan club which she is in spades) No, she lied when she was asked to explain her comments. She tried to cover up her stupidity with some amazing, bold-faced lying and by telling us that she was responding to a “gotcha” question, which, as this site points out, it certainly was not. This is her standard reply when she gets trapped looking stupid (like trying to tell us that Katie Couric was trying to trap her by asking her what newspapers and magazines she reads. Absurd.)
If you do not speak the truth, you speak a lie. This is why we should “Turn on brain, before turning on tongue”. Palin is clueless, speaks from her gut, then blames others when she gets busted. I shutter to think how close this idiot came to being elected to the 2nd most important position on earth. In 2012, I heard several callers on the Rush radio show, comment that they wouldn’t be voting for Romney, but would vote for Sarah as President. I kid you, not.
