The Fox News LIE OF THE YEAR for 2013

HANNITY-FEATURED
The Lie?
Although it’s only late October, FoxNewsLies.net can’t imagine any Fox News Lie being bigger than this one in 2013. That’s why Sean Hannity’s October 11th ruse he titled “Universal Nightmare,” is easily the FoxNewsLies.net’s 2013 “Lie of the Year!” Hannity was so sure he’d found proof that Obamacare is a “train wreck,” he aired the questionable claims by three couples who said they were facing hardships because of the Affordable Care Act. As it turns out, all of their claims were false. An enterprising contributor to Salon.com/ – Eric Stern – contacted the participants in Hannity’s ill-researched charade, and he found they were anti-Obama, anti-Obamacare non-victims of Obamacare. It’s not their false claims, that constitute the FoxNewsLies.net’s “Lie of the Year.” It’s Hannity’s unwilliness to concede he’d duped his audience.
Sean-Hannity
The Truth
Stern contacted the owner of a construction company – Paul Cox of Leicester, N.C., who’d told Hannity that he was unable to grow his company because of Obamacare. That he had to limit his workers’ hours so they could be maintained as to part-time. Stern discovered Cox only has four employees, and that his company wouldn’t be affected by Obamacare. “Well,” he said, “I haven’t been forced to do so, it’s just that I’ve chosen to do so. I have to deal with increased costs,” Cox told Stern. Stern then asked what costs he was talking about. “There was a long pause, after which he said he’d call me back. He never did,” wrote Stern.
Stern also contacted the other people who’d appeared on Hannity’s “panel.” They, too, had told Hannity they would be encumbered by Obamacare. But they, too, refused to investigate Obamacare for themselves, because they’re conservatives who aren’t inclined to believe in its benefits. If they had, according to Stern, they would have found, as Stern did, that their health insurance coverages could be less expensive than the coverages they now have. They simply don’t want Obamacare to work, and that apparently includes for themselves. (sources: Salon.com and MediaMatters.org)

Another LIE About Obama’s Connections to Muslims

Kooiman-Featured
The Lie?
During a segment on the October 5th, 2013 edition of Fox & Friends, one of the show’s co-hosts, Anna Kooiman, decided that President Obama, “has offered to pay out of his own pocket for the museum of Muslim culture out of his own pocket.” Her assertion was part of a discussion (if you call any conversation that includes Tucker Carlson a “discussion”) involving the government shutdown that led to the closing of World War II Memorial. Kooiman’s claim was stated so matter-of-factly, that it automatically became the leading candidate for the FoxNewsLies.net “Lie of the Year!
The Truth
Kooiman’s “source” was the satirical website National Report. The statement had been a well-written fake designed to make people snicker. Unfortunately, Fox & Friends isn’t snickering. So, you can expect the folks at Fox will determine that the National Report is really a clever extension of the Socialist Worker, and that the president won’t be paying out-of-pocket for the International Museum of Muslim Cultures. He’ll be funneling it from your grandmother’s pensions.   (sources: mediamatters.org and snopes.com)

The Serial Fox News LIE About Drops in Net Worth Under President Obama

F-A-F-FEATURED
The Lie?
On a number of Fox News shows on June 12th, 2012 Karl Rove, Steve Doocy, Sean Hannity and Patti Ann Browne overstated and misstated the findings contained within a Federal Reserve Board Survey by claiming that a 38.8 percent drop in the median net worth of Americans had taken place during “the last three years.” (Read: It’s all Obama’s fault)
The Truth
The Federal Reserve Survey clearly states that the period covered was between 2007 and 2010. In other words, there was a concerted effort at Fox News to blame the entire drop in net worth on President Obama, when much of it began under President George W. Bush.

Dana Perino’s LIE About Diane Sawyer’s Interview with Mitt Romney

PERINO-FEATURED
The Lie?
During a segment on the Fox News late night program Red Eye, Fox News Contributor (and former Bush White House mouthpiece) Dana Perino made the false claim that ABC’s Diane Sawyer had asked Gov. Mitt Romney about putting his dog Seamus on the roof of his car. “That was her first question,” Perino claimed. “Not how are you going to create jobs? What is going wrong? How will you turn things around? It was why did you let your dog ride on the roof of the car,” she asked breathlessly. Such a claim against a member of the supposed “liberal media,” would continue to advance the notion that news outlets other than Fox News aren’t appropriately taking Romney seriously.
The Truth
According to a transcript of the interview, the question about Seamus was the 23rd one asked. A variety of serious subjects were asked of Romney before the one about Seamus. (sources: mediaite.com/ and abcnews.com )
